The recognition of the pseudo-state was requested by Recep Tayyip Erdogan from the floor of the UN General Assembly, insisting on the “two-state solution”, shortly before the his meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In particular, the Turkish president referred to “the need for the international community to stop the persecution of the Turkish Cypriots, who are trying to isolate themselves from the world through an embargo, contrary to the principles of the United Nations” and asked the United Nations to officially recognize the pseudo-state as soon as possible.

“It has been 50 years since the peace operation in Cyprus and 61 years since the Cyprus conflict arose as a result of the usurpation of the corporate state by the Greek Cypriots. From that day until today, peace and tranquility prevails on the Island. The side that demonstrated the sincere will for a just, permanent and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue has always been the Turkish Cypriots and Turkey.

The federation model has now completely lost its power. On the island, there are two separate states and two separate peoples on the island”, he pointed out.

At the same time, the Turkish president, referring to the Eastern Mediterranean, said that “the continuation of peace and stability depends on respecting the rights and laws of all parties.”

At the same time, he added that “we want to see the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean as an area of stability and prosperity, where the legitimate interests of all relevant parties will be respected. It is in the common interest of the entire region to develop cooperation, especially in the delimitation of maritime jurisdictional zones in accordance with international law, freedom and security of navigation and maritime trade.”

“Turkey is ready for constructive cooperation in all matters, especially in matters of energy and the environment. We expect the same approach from our neighbors. As the country with the longest coastline in the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey’s key role cannot be disputed.” Erdogan emphasized, among others.

“It’s not just children dying in Gaza, the UN system is dying too”

In his speech, Erdogan called for an “alliance of humanity” to stop Israel, accusing the Israeli government of ignoring basic human rights. “Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his network of assassins must be stopped by the alliance of humanity,” he said.

“It’s not just children dying in Gaza, the UN system is dying too,” the Turkish president said, commenting that the UN has become a “dysfunctional structure.”

“The values that the West is supposed to defend are dying (…) I openly ask the question: Are you, human rights organizations, those who live in Gaza and the West Bank not human beings?” he asked, saying that Gaza has become ” the largest cemetery of children and women in the world.” “What are you waiting for to stop the massacres that are driving the whole region to war?” he continued, accusing the Israeli government of “committing (…) genocide” against the Palestinian people.

Turkey, he added, stands by the people of Lebanon, while Israel is hitting Hezbollah targets in that country.
