The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was recovered from the site of an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, medical sources said, adding that his body remained intact.

Hezbollah’s statement on Saturday confirming Nasrallah’s death did not specify the circumstances of his death or when his funeral would be held. However, the sources said there were no visible injuries on his body, suggesting his death may have been due to the force of the blast.

However, following the news that Nasrallah’s body was unharmed, speculation began to mount as to his cause of death, with some citing suffocation.

In particular, Israel’s Channel 12 News reported on Sunday that the conditions he was in lacked proper ventilation, allowing gases from the bombing to enter the area and cause his death from suffocation.

The Hezbollah leader was killed on Friday during airstrikes in Lebanon, where Israeli intelligence tracked down Nasrallah in the organization’s underground command center where he was due to meet with its leadership.
