Financial package of 10 million pounds in the context of humanitarian aid is being sent by the British government to Lebanon, as announced by the responsible Under-Secretary (International) Development Annelise Dodds.

She said that the money will help to deal with her quickly worsening humanitarian situation in the country.

About 1.2 million Lebanese have been forced to leave their homes from Israeli attacks, according to figures available to the British government, while 2,000 have been killed in the last year, with most in the past two weeks.

Ms Dodds said the only long-term solution was an immediate ceasefire.

He again called on British citizens in Lebanon to leave the country “immediately”.

On Thursday, a second charter flight carrying around 150 more Britons left Beirut’s Rafik Hariri Airport and landed in Birmingham. The first flight on Wednesday also brought around 180 Britons to Birmingham.

The Foreign Office has said there will be a limited number of charter flights for Britons “for as long as necessary and as long as security conditions permit”.
