Iran announced today that it has found the body of General Abbas Nilforoushan, who was killed by Israel in late September along with the leader of Lebanon’s pro-Iranian Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.

“The body of martyr Abbas Nilforousan has been found thanks to continuous efforts,” the Revolutionary Guards, Iran’s ideological army, announced, clarifying that the date of both her repatriation and funeral would be announced later.

Abbas Nilforousan, one of the top commanders of the Quds Force, the elite unit of the Revolutionary Guards, was killed on September 27 in the southern suburbs of Beirut along with Nasrallah in an Israeli strike.

On October 1, the Revolutionary Guards said the nearly 200 rockets fired by Iran at Israel were a retaliatory measure after the assassination of Nilforoushan, Nasrallah and Palestinian Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in July.

Israel has since vowed to respond. Defense Minister Yoav Gallad said the attack would be “lethal, precise and spectacular,” with Tehran responding that it was “ready.”
