The Italian prime minister Georgia Meloni had a meeting today with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati.
“I find the attacks against the UNIFL mission unacceptable, and both sides must guarantee the safety of the UN soldiers,” Meloni said after the meeting. “I believe that this mission must be strengthened. Only by strengthening it, we will be able to turn the page”, added the Italian Prime Minister.
He also underlined that Unifil must remain impartial, in coordination with the Lebanese army.
The head of the Italian government said that her country along with other partners proposed a three-week ceasefire. “His prime minister Lebanon and the president of the country’s national assembly accepted the proposal, now an additional effort is needed from the Israeli side,” Meloni concluded.
