The health authorities of North Macedonia “sealed” the Skopje zoo today, following an incident with a dead goose in a pond of the zoo, which after a laboratory check by the Veterinary School of the University of Skopje was found to have died of bird flu .

“To suppress the disease and prevent its spread outside the zoo to animals and people, the entry and exit of animals from the zoo and the presence of people (visitors) in the garden are prohibited. The measures will be valid for 21 days, starting from today, during which time the zoo will also be closed to visitors,” reads a statement from the health authorities of North Macedonia.
For preventive reasons and in order to avoid the possibility of the disease spreading to other animals, a number of birds were killed in the zoo in Skopje, the health authorities also reported.
The Skopje Zoo is visited by a large number of visitors every day.
