The meeting is currently underway at the army headquarters in Tel Aviv – It was preceded by a meeting with Anthony Blinken
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called a new meeting, with a limited number of people, to discuss Israel’s response to Iran’s missile attack earlier this month, according to an Israeli official who spoke to CNN.
The meeting is currently underway at the army headquarters in Tel Aviv, the official said. It was preceded by the meeting with Anthony Blinken.
The death of Yahya Sinwar will have a positive effect on the return of the Israeli hostages, the achievement of all the goals of the war and for the next day, Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized after his meeting with the US Secretary of State.
He discussed a “framework of government” for Gaza on “the next day of war” during his meeting with the US secretary of state, his office said. He also updated the US Secretary of State on the progress of Israel’s fighting in Gaza and on the steps it is taking to free its remaining 101 hostages.
There is a need for political change and security in the North, which will allow Israel to take the residents safely back to their homes, the Israeli Prime Minister noted.
Netanyahu raised “the need for both countries to join forces against” the Iranian threat, and thanked Blinken for US support “in the fight against the Iranian axis of evil and terrorism.”
Netanyahu’s office described the meeting as “friendly and productive.”
For his part, the US Secretary of State after his meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister urged Israel to take advantage of the death of the Hamas leader to achieve a truce, and to ensure the release of the hostages from the October 7 attack, so that to end the conflict in Gaza, the State Department said.
Anthony Blinken also emphasized the need for Israel to take additional steps to maintain and strengthen the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the US department said in a statement after the two men met in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Yahya Sinwar may have ordered the execution of all remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza if he is killed, Britain’s The Telegraph reported on Tuesday, citing top Israeli hostage negotiator Gerson Baskin.
Baskin, who played a key role in the 2011 negotiations that secured the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit in exchange for the release of more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including Sinwar himself, described the current situation as “a moment of opportunity or disaster” for Israel.
