Ukrainian armed forces launched an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on southwestern Russia’s Varonez region on Sunday, targeting an ethanol industrial complex, Russian media reported.

One person was injured by UAV fragments, while a fire broke out in the factory area, regional governor Alexander Gusev announced via a post on the Telegram platform. He clarified that the condition of the injured person does not inspire concern and that he is receiving medical attention.

Governor Gusev said about 10 unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted in the skies over the region and that debris fell on an industrial complex, causing a fire and damaging two residential buildings.

The Baza news channel on the Telegram platform, which is close to the Russian security services, reported that two explosions occurred in the area of the ethanol production plant in the Krasne commune.

The Reuters news agency emphasizes that it is unable to independently verify this report.

Kiev has declared that its UAV strikes against Russian territory target infrastructure linked to Russia’s military operations and that they are being launched in retaliation for ongoing Russian attacks in Ukraine.
