According to information, the draft agreement on the ceasefire in Lebanon which are discussed by Israelis with them Americans includes:

  • The full implementation of UN resolution 1701
  • Withdrawal of Hezbollah from southern Lebanon
  • The official Lebanese army and UNIFIL will be the only armed entities in southern Lebanon
  • Israel will cease operations against military and government targets
  • The government of Lebanon should ensure that the smuggling and production of weapons in the country is stopped
  • The Israeli army must withdraw within a week of signing the agreement
  • The Lebanese army will be deployed in southern Lebanon and will be overseen by the US and other international forces

According to the Bloombergthe Israel was considering an agreement to end the conflict with Hezbollah to Lebanon with the aim of removing the pro-Shiite group’s men from the Israeli border, as it estimates that its missile arsenal has been mostly used or destroyed, Bloomberg reports.

The prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with top officials late Tuesday to discuss a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal, his spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the White House is sending two of President Joe Biden’s top Middle East envoys, Brett McGurk and Amos Hochstein, to Israel on Thursday, another Israeli official said.

The plan would see a 60-day suspension of hostilities while mediators hammer out a lasting peace deal to remove Hezbollah from the border region and boost the number of United Nations peacekeepers there, Israel’s Channel 12 reported. However, many obstacles must be overcome, as the myriad failed attempts to secure a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza have demonstrated.

“The war in the north will be over by the end of the year,” Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich told reporters on Tuesday, referring to the Lebanese front, adding emphatically that 2025 “will not be a year of war, it will be a year exit from the war”.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad, speaking on Tuesday, noted that Hezbollah’s hierarchy has now been destroyed, and estimated that its missile capability is at 20 percent of what it was before the conflict.

Besides, the IDF stressed on Tuesday that the military objectives in Lebanon have almost been achieved, and that the government can now take diplomatic initiatives. Senior Israeli officials told the Ynet news site that there is progress on an agreement to end the conflict in Lebanon.
