While the exchanges of fire continue on both sides, with unabated intensity, at the diplomatic level the processes for a ceasefire in Lebanon are feverish.

Israelis and Americans discuss a draft of the agreement, while the new leader of Hezbollah, Naim Kasemsaid on Wednesday that his Iranian-backed movement could continue the war “for months” – until the end of Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip against Hamas.

At the same time, however, he declared his willingness to close ceasefire agreement with Israel ‘conditional’underlining that no serious proposal for this has been put on the table.

Israel’s government is demanding that Hezbollah withdraw its fighters from southern Lebanon, deploy the Lebanese army along the border and take over an international mechanism to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire.

At the same time, two White House officials, Amos Hochstein, President Biden’s envoy for Lebanon, and Brett McGurk, White House Middle East representative, went to Israel yesterday to try to secure the achievement progress, with a view to ending hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

THE Hockstein “hinted” that the conclusion of a cease-fire agreement may be possible before the presidential elections in the US, next Tuesday November 5th.
