“History does not expire,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in response to Edi Rama’s statements.

In particular, according to diplomatic sources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that:

History does not expire and keeps alive the demand for full respect, on the part of Albania, of the rights of the Greek ethnic minority. This constitutes an explicit condition for Albania’s accession process, according to the unanimous position of the 27 member states of the European Union of October 11, 2024».

It is recalled that according to the Albanian media, in his speech Edi Rama referred to the protest rally, saying:

A protest was organized with ridiculous leaflets inspired by the so-called “Northern Epirots” and they only cause me pity. “Northern Epirotes” is a dead term, over time it has died. And it has died along with every dream of the people who try to ridicule it. Anyone who uses this term when talking about the south of Albania shows that they don’t want to live in the 21st century. They are fossils and a shame».

At another point in his speech, he asked for the vote of the Albanian community in Thessaloniki, said: “You took the road to your homeland, today you are a voter with full rights” and called “Let’s make Albania a member of the EU by 2030».
