Former Russian Prime Minister and current Vice President of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev is directly threatening nationalization of Western companies that are leaving Russia one after another due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Western companies leaving Russia because of the war in Ukraine are facing the nationalization of their factories and production facilities. “Companies will practically leave collectivity to their fate (…) We will give a start and a tough answer to this,” he warned on Thursday via Facebook.
“Short-sighted Russophobic officials do not care that people in both Europe and Russia may lose their jobs and incomes because of these foolish decisions that run counter to common sense,” he said.
Recalls that he recently spoke “the need for a ‘symmetrical response’, including seizures of foreign assets and their possible nationalization “.
“Therefore,” he said, “the Russian government is working step by step to start the companies going bankrupt and then nationalize their assets,” Medvedev said.
“The government’s priority,” he noted, “is not to let people take to the streets while unemployed.”
Medvedev said that the new production should be built “on the basis of the assets left behind by panicked investors”. “Such an approach is objective and fair,” he said.
“Besides, cutlets and buns, with excellent quality, we know how to produce them ourselves. By the way, this could be done by entrepreneurs who were under sanctions. Say hello to McDonald’s! ” comments the high-ranking Russian official mockingly.
