“For some it is the time of victory, for some it is the time of defeat. The result, however, must always be acceptable. You can’t love your country only when you win. You cannot love your neighbor only when you agree with him. (…) Regardless of who you voted for, we must see each other as fellow citizens and not as adversaries.” With these words, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, accepts the verdict of the ballot box and prepares to hand over the baton to Donald Trump.

Although Donald Trump, 1,460 days later, has yet to accept the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, he appears determined not to repeat the mistakes of his first term. Mission one, according to his colleagues, is to make the right decisions for the persons of his new government, as, as they say, they were his Achilles’ heel in 2016.

As the American network CNN reported yesterday, the newly elected president of the United States receives a barrage of phone calls from his allies, who compete with each other for who is the most loyal and the most suitable for a position in his administration. He also receives phone calls from sponsors of his election campaign as well as his advisers, who in turn recommend the most suitable persons.

Speaking to the American network NBC News, he made it clear that he will implement his plan for “the largest mass deportation of immigrants” from the country, stressing that he was elected in order to “bring back common sense to the United States.” He added that he had already spoken with more than 70 leaders of other countries – including the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, but not yet with Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, Mr Russian president congratulated him on his victory, answering positively to the question if he is willing to talk with him and in the press conference he gave in Sochi he added that a new world order is inevitable. He reiterated that Russia is ready for negotiations on the war in Ukraine, while he did not fail to praise him for the way he reacted to the first assassination attempt against him. “He proved to be courageous, not only because he raised his fist and called everyone to fight for their common ideals, but because, in my opinion, he behaved in a very proper, courageous, manly way,” he said.

For its part, Europe is still finding its pace. The election of Trump was on the table of the European Political Community with its initiator, President of France, Emmanuel Macron emphasizing that the question remains whether “we are willing to defend the interest of Europe” and the Hungarian Prime Minister noting that “we cannot wait the Americans to protect us.”

In the coming days, the date on which the staffs of Joe Biden and Donald Trump have agreed for the two sides to meet will be known, as the president of the United States has already invited the winner of the presidential election to the White House.
