In Moscow, former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder plays the role of ombudsman

by

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, a member of the board of directors of Rosneft and the Russian company Stream 2, has been in Moscow since last night to mediate with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

According to a report in the Bild newspaper, which cites associates of the former chancellor, Mr. Schroeder was approached by Ukrainian officials in Istanbul, asking him to visit the Kremlin and mediate with Vladimir Putin.

He called immediately and, according to the same sources, received confirmation of the appointment “in 10 minutes”, according to the publication. He was asked to stay in Istanbul in order to pick up himself and his wife on a Russian plane.

However, the ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin, Andriy Malnik, denied today, speaking on the first channel of the German public television ARD, that Mr. Schroeder went to Moscow at the request of the Ukrainian government.

The former chancellor, according to Bild, did not inform his party, the SPD, or the federal government about the trip in advance.

“No comment,” was Olaf Soltz’s answer when asked in Versailles.

However, Mr. Schroeder’s wife, Soyon Schroeder Kim, posted a sensation on Instagram. This is a photo of her in front of a window – a suite of the Kempinski Hotel in Moscow, according to Bild – overlooking the Red Square and the Kremlin.

Mrs. Schroeder Kim is depicted dressed in black, with her eyes closed, her hands clasped in a prayer position – without words.
