A day before the US deadline for Israeli authorities to increase aid to Gaza passes
Israel’s military announced today that it had opened a new crossing point for humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip, a day before a US deadline for Israeli authorities to increase aid to the Palestinians passed.
“As part of the effort and commitment aimed at increasing the volume and routes of aid to the Gaza Strip, the ‘Kisufim’ crossing point was opened today for trucks carrying humanitarian aid,” the Israeli military said in a joint statement. with Cogat, the Israeli agency responsible for political affairs in the Palestinian territories.
US Secretary of State and Defense Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin addressed in a letter dated October 13 a series of requests to Israel aimed at increasing the humanitarian aid provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
The two ministers gave Israeli authorities 30 days to comply with the demands, warning that the US may suspend some of its military aid to Israel if they do not.
Among the demands made by the US were that Israel allow up to 350 trucks carrying humanitarian aid to enter the Palestinian enclave every day, open a fifth crossing point to the Gaza Strip and limit evacuation orders from areas of the enclave to those that are absolutely necessary.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said last Thursday that Israel intends to open “in the coming days” the Kisufim crossing, located in the central part of the enclave, which is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis.
