“Odessa once again suffered a massive enemy attack… According to the first data, one person is dead”
A “massive” Russian attack at night resulted in the death of a woman in Odessa, a major port in southern Ukraine, Ukrainian emergency services announced today.
“Odessa once again suffered a massive attack by the enemy (…) According to the first data, one person is dead” and ten others were injured, including two children, the first aid services reported via Telegram.
The victim is “a 35-year-old woman who was sleeping near a window,” according to the mayor of this Black Sea port, Hennadi Trukhanov, who expressed via the same social networking site.
According to regional governor Oleh Kiper, “an apartment building in the center of Odessa was destroyed, apartments caught fire, (other) apartment buildings, a church and around thirty vehicles were damaged” due to the attack.
A pipeline of the city’s heating system was also targeted and a heating unit was forced to shut down, according to the same source.
Footage released by emergency services shows firefighters trying to put out a fire in a three-story building and giving first aid to an elderly woman.
The Russian armed forces have recently been intensifying their attacks in southern Ukraine and have in particular targeted civilian ships in ports in the Odesa region, while on the other hand Kiev is intensifying its attacks against energy infrastructure in Russia or sectors of Ukraine controlled by the Russian army.
On the night of November 7-8, one person was killed and nine others were injured in Odessa after an airstrike set fire to houses and warehouses, according to authorities.
For months now, the Ukrainian government has been demanding that its Western allies provide it with more air defense systems to fend off Russian attacks.
The head of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Saigu, for his part, decided that the West should start negotiations with Moscow if it really wants to put an end to Russia’s strikes in Ukraine.
