At the same time, he warned that the possibility of an accident at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine “is increasing day by day.”
At a meeting of the Security Council convened at the request of Russia to discuss Moscow’s unsubstantiated claim that the United States was planning a biological weapons program in Ukraine, Izumi Nakamitsu also said that situations such as the war in Ukraine called for a stronger international weapons.
On the other hand, Rosemary DiCarlo, the head of the Agency’s Political Affairs Department, stressed that there is an “urgent need” to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. He called on Russia and Ukraine to rely on contacts for this purpose, such as the meeting of their two foreign ministers in Turkey on Tuesday.
“We call for such efforts to be intensified” and for ceasefire agreements to be given priority. “The logic of dialogue and diplomacy must prevail over the logic of war,” he said.
