“This could be a game changer. The further (i.e. deeper into Russian territory) Ukraine can strike, the shorter the war will be.”
The green light given by the US to Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia “could be a game-changer”, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibykha said on Monday.
“This could be a game changer. The further (i.e. deeper into Russian territory) Ukraine can strike, the shorter the war will be (…) It could have a very positive impact on the battlefield,” Sibikha told reporters before meeting of the UN Security Council on the occasion of the completion of 1,000 days since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden has approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles to strike inside Russia, despite uncertainty over whether President-elect Donald Trump could reverse his decision.
The development has already caused consternation among Donald Trump’s allies.
The move to authorize Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia came in the final months of Biden’s tenure, fully aware that US foreign policy could soon be overhauled with Trump back in the White House.
Trump himself has not commented, but one of his campaign pledges was to end the war in Ukraine with his inner circle condemning the Biden move and speaking of dangerous escalation.
