A new video, this time addressed to the mothers of Russian soldiers who have invaded Ukraine, was posted by Volodymyr Zelensky during the night.
The President of Ukraine calls on Russian mothers not to let their sons go to war, even if the military leadership calls it an exercise.
“Do not put your son to death or captivity. Ukraine has never wanted this terrible war. … But it will defend its territories as long as necessary,” he said.
Volodymyr Zelensky says more than 12,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the invasion began, and thousands more have been wounded, captured or surrendered.
At the same time, he states that there are so many Russian soldiers captured in his country that a special structure has been set up to hold them.
Referring to the civilians, he stressed that those who managed to leave four besieged cities of Ukraine yesterday, Friday, were significantly smaller than in previous days.
In particular, he stressed that a total of 7,144 civilians were evacuated from the war zones, a number that is significantly lower compared to the previous two 24 hours.
Zelensky accused Russia of refusing to allow civilians to leave Mariupol and other besieged Ukrainian cities, assuring Kyiv that it would try again today to send food and medicine to those areas.
In the video, the President of Ukraine also demands the release of the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, and the guarantee of full security to all community leaders across the country.
“We have entered a new phase of terror, when they try to physically exterminate representatives of the legitimately elected government, real representatives of the people. The actions of the Russian attackers will be equated with the actions of the ISIS terrorists,” he said.
