Several humanitarian corridors in Ukraineincluding those from the besieged southern port city of Mariupol and from Zaporizhia, opened today, according to Deputy Prime Minister Irina Verestsuk.
He added that he hoped Russia would keep its promises of a ceasefire.
She noted that Ukraine plans to evacuate many towns and villages in the areas of Kiev and Sumy and in some other areas where fighting is taking place.
“I hope the day goes well, all planned routes will be open and Russia will fulfill its obligations to guarantee a ceasefire,” he said in a video.
According to the BBC, evacuation efforts starting at 09:00 local time will see vehicles departing from six destinations across the region.
All processions head to the central city of Poltava and are expected to arrive between 13:00 and 14:00.
Authorities say more than 1,500 people have been killed in Mariupol, which is under siege with running out of water and food supplies, and efforts to evacuate residents have failed repeatedly this week.
