The head of the American insurance company UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson, was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan, New York.
Meanwhile, a $10,000 bounty is being offered for the killer of the CEO of the corporate giant. According to the NYPD, Thompson was shot twice, once in the back and once in the leg.
The perpetrator set up a death ambush for him
CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in the chest just before 07:00 EST (12:00 GMT) outside the Hilton Hotel, where he was due to address a meeting with the company’s investors later in the day.
After being shot, the 50-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
A suspect fled the scene and remains at large, the New York Police Department said.
Thompson appeared to be the target of the attack, with the suspect waiting outside wearing a ski mask and cream coat, black and white sneakers and a gray backpack, police said.
Investigators said they have video of the shooting, but the suspect’s motive remains unknown. Nothing was taken from the victim, they added.

Who is Brian Thompson
Thompson was one of the company’s most senior executives. He was appointed chief executive of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021. He earned $10.2m (£8m) working for the company last year. He himself appeared regularly at investor events.
Thompson graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1997. He worked at PwC before joining UnitedHealth.
He himself worked at the company for about 20 years. He started at the insurer in 2004 and has held several leadership roles, including CEO of the company’s government programs division.
UnitedHealthcare is the largest private insurer in the United States, and its stock is up about 0.5%. The insurance unit he headed is expected to generate $280 billion in revenue this year.
UnitedHealth Group immediately canceled a meeting with investors after the news of the shooting, according to US media.
