Six people were killed by Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced Saturday.

According to the update, an air strike “by the Israeli enemy in the city of Beit Leaf caused the death of five people and the wounding of five others.” In addition, “a drone attack in the city of Deir Sherian caused the death of one person”, reports the Ministry of Health.

Lebanon’s national news agency (NNA in English, ANI in French) had earlier reported that “a drone hit a motorcycle in the city of Deir Seryan.”

The ceasefire agreement reached on November 27 ended (in theory at least) the open war between Israel and Hezbollah, which has killed nearly 4,000 people in the past two months in Lebanon. Israel and Hezbollah frequently accuse each other of ceasefire violations.

The agreement provided for the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanon within 60 days, underlining that only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers could be deployed in the southern part of the country.

During an emergency cabinet meeting held in a camp in Tire (south), Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati reiterated his support for the Lebanese army and its cooperation with UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) forces. He called on the international community to make serious and decisive efforts to end the ongoing violations of the enemy, to ensure the withdrawal of its forces from the occupied territories, actively contributing to the implementation of the ceasefire.
