In detail, the announcement states:Cyprus strongly supports the peaceful transition of power to a responsible Syrian government through an inclusive process, guided by the will of the Syrian people and in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254. The unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria must be respected.
We look forward to a smooth political transition, where the integrity of state institutions, adherence to International Humanitarian Law, the safety of all Syrian citizens, including all minorities, and Syria’s rich cultural heritage should be ensured and protected.
The return to democratic normality and stability in the country will also facilitate the safe return of Syrian refugees to their homes.
Cyprus, as the member state of the European Union that is geographically closest to the turbulent region of the Middle East, supports in every possible way the restoration of regional peace, stability and the well-being of the Syrian people. In this regard, we are in constant contact and coordination with our other European partners and relevant regional partners».
