The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, presented the new electronic system “Cerbero” (Cerberus), which is based on artificial intelligence and is to increase the fines that the residents of the Eternal City will receive.

Thanks to a camera installed on 20 Traffic police cars, it is now possible to check whether parked vehicles are insured and whether the owner has paid the road tax. At the same time, the “scanning” through artificial intelligence allows, since yesterday, to verify the identity of the owner and to send, directly to his residence, a fine in case of illegal parking.

In the video of the presentation of the new system, the mayor of Rome emphasized that the final decision on the issuance of a fine will be made by the staff of the Traffic and not by “Cerberus”.

The inhabitants of the Italian capital are rather divided. Many emphasize that respect for the road traffic code is of key importance and approve the whole initiative. But others believe that the chronic problem of parking shortages – which has been exacerbated by works for the Catholic Holy Year, which starts on December 24 – should be tackled at the same time.
