How optimistic are people about the future? How many hope for a better world? The Hope Barometer, the international online hope survey, measures just that. It started in 2009, at the initiative of the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and has been held annually ever since. Now, St. Gallen is not alone. It works with renowned universities and academics in more than 20 countries, including Australia, Colombia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, India, Israel, Italy, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Spain and South Africa, while this year our country is participating for the first time.

In last year’s survey, the public was asked about their expectations for the future in various areas, about their hopes on a personal level, about their values. This year the survey will also include questions about climate change and artificial intelligence.
