Manslaughter and arson charges have been brought against 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta, who set a fire and burned a woman alive on the New York subway.

The attacker, a Guatemalan citizen, set fire to the clothes of a woman who was sleeping on the train and sat on a bench with a lighter and watched her burn. The police arrested him six hours after the heinous crime.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tice said the woman’s clothing “they burned completely, within seconds».

Metro workers and police officers patrolling the station used fire extinguishers to put out the fire. The woman, whose identity has not been released, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also said there does not appear to have been any prior interaction between Zapeta and the woman.
