A woman in her 80s died today in a knife attack in the town of Hercilija, north of Tel Avivan Israeli hospital announced, with police speaking of the arrest of a suspect.

“He was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds,” Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital said. Despite “resuscitation efforts, hospital staff pronounced her dead on arrival,” he added.

The attack took place in De Salit Square in Herzliya, police said.

“We stopped the bleeding, gave her medicine and removed her (from the scene) in critical condition,” said Idan Sinai, a rescuer at Magen David Adom, Israel’s first aid agency, before the hospital announced the woman’s death.

For its part, the police said that the suspected perpetrator of the attack, a 28-year-old Palestinian from the occupied West Bank, was arrested and added that an investigation had been launched.

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip, which broke out after the unprecedented attack by Hamas against Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, there have been many attacks by Palestinians in Israel.

At least 31 people, including Israeli soldiers, have been killed in these attacks, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.
