Musk calls for the release of Tommy Robinson, who made an abusive documentary about a Syrian refugee student, who sued him and won the case
THE Elon Musk welcomed in 2025 asking for the release of a prisoner far right British activist.
On Thursday morning the X owner wrote that British authorities should “free Tommy Robinson” and added that the deeply controversial documentary about the co-founder of the English Defense League, a nationalist and Islamophobic movement, is worth watching.
Robinson was jailed for 18 months last October after admitting breaching a court order by showing the documentary, which made defamatory claims about a Syrian refugee student.
Musk shared the documentary with his more than 210 million followers on the X platform he owns.
Robinson is one of the most well-known far-right figures in the UK. His demonstrations in London often attract thousands of supporters. Robinson is a former member of the British National Party, which was unsuccessful in the 2019 European elections.
Lawyers for the Syrian student sued Tommy Robinson for defamation, saying his false claims had a “devastating effect” on the student and his family and forced them to move house.
This is not Musk’s first intervention in the British political scene. The billionaire has been at odds with the ruling Labor Party since last year. He has branded the UK a “tyrannical police state” and claimed that “civil war is inevitable” because of last summer’s violence.
But Musk’s post in favor of Robinson may be uncomfortable for Nigel Farage, whose right-wing populist party has sought to distance itself from the most fringe elements of the UK’s far right.
Musk has openly expressed his support for Farage’s party and held talks with him at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in December.
