International flights to and from Damascus International Airport will resume on Tuesday, following the suspension of commercial connections due to the fall of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, the Syrian SANA news agency reported on Saturday.

We announce the resumption of international flights to and from Damascus International Airport from Tuesday“said the head of the Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority Ashad al-Salibi, cited by SANA.

“Dwe assure the Arab and international airlines that we have started the rehabilitation phase of Aleppo (northern Syria) and Damascus airports with the help of our partners so that they can receive aircraft from all over the world“, he added.

Planes carrying international humanitarian aid have already landed in Syria and domestic flights have also resumed.

Syrian Airlines will resume flights from Damascus to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, from Tuesday, an official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

On Thursday, Qatar Airways announced the resumption of flights to the Syrian capital from Tuesday, after a nearly thirteen-year hiatus.

On December 18, the first flight since the ousted president, who was ousted from power by a coalition of rebel organizations, took off from Damascus airport for Aleppo.
