On Friday, the Israeli military announced it had intercepted a missile and a drone fired from Yemen.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels have launched numerous missile and drone attacks against Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip – which was sparked by an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023 – claiming they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians.
Last week, the Houthis announced they had fired two missiles at Israel, targeting Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv and a power plant south of Jerusalem.
In retaliation, Israel launched attacks against areas controlled by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have been launching sporadic attacks on ships – which they believe are linked to Israel, the US and Britain – in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
