Several French people have taken to the streets today Tuesday in Paris and Lyon to celebrate the death of the founder of the National Front, Jean-Marie Le Pen who passed away today at the age of 96.

The news of his death sparked rallies in the French city tonight with hundreds of citizens gathered in the Place de République in Paris celebrating.

Some were shouting “he’s dead!” others danced while some held placards with the inscription “What a beautiful day!”

in Lyon, citizens first gathered in Place des Terreaux. Fireworks were shot into the sky while various slogans were chanted by the crowd against the National Front. They then headed towards Old Lyon with the crowd passing the Burdeau fountain. “Let’s make January 7th a holiday”, shouted the crowd.
