The war between the cartels has left hundreds of dead in recent months – demonstrations under the slogan “We want peace” and burning policies
In Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico, some residents say drug -powered violence has become so ugly that they would welcome US President Donald Trump’s proposal to chase the US Army.
Trump said he would consider the possibility of some form US military action against the cartels and called on the State Department to characterize them as “Foreign terrorist organizations”.
As stated in Reutersthe President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum He said that Mexico is in close communication with the United States and that it does not believe that the Trump government will take on military action, which will be regarded as a violation of many Mexicans.
But in Sinaloa, Where a war between the cartels has left hundreds of dead in recent months, some residents have been so bored of violence that they are open to Trump’s idea.
“People are coming out to demonstrate, twice in the last week, because things get out of control”said Apollinar Garcia, one of the protesters on a march in Kouliakan, the capital of the Sinaloa state, on Sunday. Demonstrators wearing white shirts blended signs, shouting ‘We want peace’ and burned local policies.
Garcia said the Mexican government should negotiate with Trump for ways of cooperating and ending violence.
Irama Garcia, also protesting, said she would welcome the help of the US, Europe or any international organization that could stop bloodshed.
“We need someone to support us and solve the situation”he said.
The Mexican government has sent thousands of soldiers to Sinaloa in an effort to calm down violence. High profile arrests followed and large drug seizures, but Treatment of heavily armed cartel involves the risk of ignition of violenceas happened in the past.
“To the residents of Sinaloa: Know that we are working for this every day”said Sheinbaum earlier this week.
