Kadyrov: Thousands of Chechens are on their way to fight in Ukraine

by

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said today that “1,000” Chechen volunteers were on their way to fight in Ukraine, three weeks after the start of the Russian invasion.

In his Telegram account, Kadyrov said that one of his associates, Apti Alaudinov, was “leading 1,000 volunteers from the Chechen Republic” who were “on their way to join the special operation to de-Nazify and demilitarize Ukraine. ».

The Chechen leader said Monday he was in Ukraine, alongside Russian forces, at an occupied airport near Kyiv.

This information could not be verified by independent sources and has been disputed by Ukrainian officials.

Kadyrov, who has been accused by international NGOs of serious human rights abuses in Chechnya and is a bodyguard of President Vladimir Putin, has a militia under his command.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, images of a square in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, full of soldiers saying they were leaving for Ukraine were posted on social media.

Ramzan Kadyrov, who rules Chechnya with an iron fist, is considered completely loyal to the Kremlin and has under his command a military group known as the “Kadyrovtsi”, which has been accused of many atrocities in Chechnya.
