German Minister of Economy Robert Habek has called on the European Union to break its dependence on “technological oligarchs” such as Ilon Musk, who, he claimed, undermine democracy, even proposing the creation of a European platform.

Asked “how people could be liberated by the oligarchs of technology”, Greens’ candidate Habek described the US President Donald Trump’s cooperation with Ilon Musk.

He also criticized US Vice President Jay Di Vans that “he is hiding behind allegations of freedom of expression, as he calls on the EU less regulation on American social networking platforms and says algorithms must be public”. Habek even favored the creation of a German or European social networking and communication platform, stressing that “our communications, our views and our democracy cannot depend on Chinese algorithms and extreme fantasies of Ilon Musk”.
