Erdogan did not fail to mention the joint action of the two countries against members of the Fetahulah Gulen movement in northern Macedonia
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski signed an agreement on Friday, February 28, in Constantinople to set up a high -level cooperation council between the two countries.
In the joint statements after their meeting, President Erdogan pointed out that Turkey was one of the first countries to recognize Northern Macedonia’s independence, referring to solid relations between the two countries, pointing out that bilateral economic relations had been a significant capital of their talks. Christian Mitskoski described Turkey as a “friend” in the financial and commercial sector and “a very strong state that has a great influence on this region.” He listed the areas of cooperation between the two countries, making special reference to the energy sector and the transport of gas, as well as safety and defense, because both countries are NATO members. He also referred to the cooperation of Skopje and Ankara, in terms of industry, infrastructure and culture. “We want to establish strategic cooperation,” he said.
Christian Mitskoski called on Tayyip Erdogan to visit Skopje, and the Turkish president said he intends to make this visit in the near future to attend the first high -level cooperation council meeting.
Prime Minister Mitskoski was accompanied by Northern Macedonian Foreign Minister Timso Moutsunski, who had a separate meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.
