Russian cosmonauts appeared on the International Space Station wearing yellow overalls and blue details, reminiscent of the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
The image made the rounds of the internet causing a lot of comments however the cosmonauts from the beginning did not make any specific position on it.
Oleg Artemiev, Denis Matveyev and Sergei Korsakov were aboard the Soyuz MS-21 which was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Friday 18/3.
Three hours later, they arrived at the International Space Station, where two other Russians, four Americans and a German, were staying.
Their arrival came a day after European Space announcements said they had suspended a joint robotic rover mission to Russia with Mars because of the war in Ukraine.
The arrival of these cosmonauts was the first since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The flight crews of the new crew are made in the colors of the emblem of the Bauman State Technical University of Moscow, from which all three cosmonauts graduated. To see the Ukrainian flag everywhere and in everything is crazy. “Sometimes yellow is just yellow,” a Roskosmos spokesman said in a Telegram post following the comments.
It is noted that photos of them were distributed by Roscosmos itself.
The typical Russian flight suit is purely blue and at least one of the cosmonauts was seen wearing it before the Soyuz space capsule was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Asked about the uniforms during a press conference broadcast live on arrival at the International Space Station, the head of the mission, Oleg Artemiev, told the Guardian that “each crew chooses a color that looks different. It was our turn to choose. The truth is that a lot of yellow fabric / material had accumulated, and we had to use it. That’s why we had to wear yellow flight suits. “
