The United States announced today the imposition of sanctions on seven senior executives of the organization rebel Yemen, who accuse them of importing illegal weapons to their war country, and against another member of this movement, which allegedly sent Yemeni citizens to fight in Ukraine on the side of Russian forces.

These sanctions are taken the day after the White House of the Iranian guerrilla organization as “international terrorist organization”.

The seven officials imposed sanctions “secretly introduced military products and weapons systems in the Yemeni -controlled areas of Yemen and also negotiated the acquisition of weapons from Russia,” the US ministry explained.

Among these officials is the head of the Supreme Political Council Mahi al-Masat, the most important Houthi political official. Organization spokesman Mohammed Abdusalam, who is based on Oman’s Sultanate, is also included in this list.

The mission of sovereign volunteers to fight in Ukraine represents a source of additional revenue for the organization, the US Treasury said.

“Trying to be equipped with a growing number of international suppliers, Houthi officials showed their willingness to continue their dangerous and destabilizing actions in the Red Sea region,” Finance Minister Scott Besed reported.

“We will use all the available tools to combat Houthi’s violence and work with the internationally recognized Yemeni government to destroy their (military) skills,” said US Foreign Ministry spokesman Tami Bruce.

Sanctions include freezing all the assets that directly or indirectly hold persons who are a target of sanctions, the ban on businesses and American citizens from dealing with them, as well as banning the access of these persons to US territory.

Since November 2023, Houthi, who controlled large areas of Yemen’s territory, and the capital Sanaa, have launched attacks off the country against ships that were estimated to be linked to Israel, but also the US and Britain.

They said that they were acting in this way in a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians when the war in the Gaza Strip was raging.

These attacks disturbed circulation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, a marine area of vital world trade, pushing the US to form a multinational naval coalition and hit the guerrilla targets in Yemen, sometimes with the help of Britain.

Houthi stopped these attacks after the entry of the truce in Gaza on January 19th.
