Sylvester Turner served as mayor of Houston from 2016 to 2024 and was elected MP last year to get Silason Lee’s seat
He passed away yesterday Wednesday, at the age of 70, by the Democratic MP and former Houston mayor, Sylvester Turner, just hours after he attended the Congress plenary to attend US President Donald’s speech.
Turner represented the 18th Texas constituency in the US House of Representatives. Elections will be held in the region he represented to fill the seat.
Sylvester Turner served as mayor of Houston from 2016 to 2024 and was elected a member last year to get the seat of Silason Lee, who died last July at the age of 74.
Without clarifying the cause of death, a spokesman for the deceased MP said that Turner had attended the whole speech (almost 100 minutes) by President Trump in Congress. He then went to a hospital and shortly thereafter returned to his home, where he left his last breath.
The House of Representatives has two more vacant seats, previously held by Republicans Matt Gates and Mike Walts, both from Florida. Elections are scheduled in their regions on April 1st, which is expected to be republicans again.
