In favor of strengthening the European Union, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban says in a post on X while Europeans are currently meeting in Brussels at the summit.

“My meetings in France have confirmed that, while we may disagree with peace modes, we agree that we must strengthen the defensive abilities of European nations,” Orban told X after a meeting Thursday with French President Emmanuel.

However, as he said, his support is conditional since the European Commission says to gain excessive power.

“These efforts should strengthen the Member States and not the Brussels bureaucrats,” he continued in his post.

But this is a widely common view between the capitals, who for the most part do not want to abandon the responsibilities related to defense in Brussels.

It is recalled that Victor Orban is considered one of the “thorns” that the Europeans will face at today’s meeting after the Hungarian president has opposed the new European Union package aimed at Ukraine’s support of 20 billion euros.
