A tragedy occurred last week in Iran, when a 12 -year -old girl committed suicide after forcing a marriage by her family.

The father of 12 -year -old Fatima She was pushing her to marry her relative, and when she resisted, she responded with wild beatings and humiliation, the NCRI (National Council for Resistance in Iran) said.

Little Fatima begged her family to stop torturing her, warning that she would commit suicide if the pressure continued. Her calls were ignored and ended her life.

In the end, Fatima became another of the countless victims of forced marriage and domestic violence.

Forced marriages: a cycle of oppression leading to death

Child marriages continue despite international reactions under Iran’s oppressive regime. This practice is not only a blatant violation of human rights but also causes irreversible physical and psychological damage to its victims, the NCRI organization points out.

Early pregnancies, mortality between underage mothers, depression, suicide, school abandonment and divorce are just some of the devastating consequences of marriage of children. In the meantime, the legal system of the Iranian regime not only fails to prevent these injustices, but it is actively legalizing them through misogynistic and biased laws.
