Israel is ready to defend Syria’s Druzo after reports of mass murders of Alawites, members of another religious minority in the country.

Speaking to reporters, Israeli government spokesman David Mencher has spoken of a “slaughter of civilians”, stressing that Israel is “ready, if necessary, to defend the Drouzes” without any further clarification.

The Druzians are a special minority, whose religion has its roots in Shiite Islam but draws evidence from other beliefs. There are today there are today in Israel, Syria and Lebanon.
