The UN Secretary -General, Mr Duzarik said, expresses his sincere condolences to Syrians who mourn the loss of their loved ones
“The Secretary -General expresses great concern after violent escalation in its coastal areas Syriawhere extensive murders were marked with summary procedures, including whole families and lost our colleague’s life from her UNRWA -Hed UNing and Works of the United Nations“, Said UN Secretary -General Stefan Duzarik during the press briefing at the New York International Organization.
The UN Secretary -General, Mr Duzarik said, expresses his sincere condolences to the Syrians who mourn the loss of their loved ones and wishes the wounded rapid recovery. It calls on all parties to protect civilians and stop incendiary rhetoric and action, as Syria faces the consequences of 14 years of conflict and more than five decades of authoritarian governance.
Mr Guterres, he said, reiterates his concern about escalating tensions between communities in Syria.
“The bloodshed in Syria should be stopped immediately and the perpetrators of violations must be held accountable. Syrian communities concerns must be treated in a meaningful wayStephan Duzarik noted.
The Secretary -General also underlines the need to ensure and protect the space for independent media and human rights organizations in order to carry out their work for monitoring and verification and to enlighten their references.
Mr Duzarik also said that the escalation of violence in Syria has a serious impact on civilian and non -military infrastructure. Yesterday, hundreds of people -including women, children and medical staff are alleged to have been killed. Thousands are alleged to have been displaced in the area and thousands have passed to Lebanon to seek security.
“Our colleagues dealing with humanitarian aid tell us that the power outages in Latakia have stopped pumping water. Schools in Latakia and Tartos did not work yesterday and today. The Homs-Latakia motorway remains excluded, further limiting humanitarian aid access. Humanitarian businesses in the area remain in deregulation, with insecurity stopping all movements to and within coastal areas.
Political infrastructures have been seriously affected, including hospitals and many ambulances. Other medical facilities in the area urgently need medical supplies and support“Mr Duzarik said.
Syrian Secretary -General Special Envoy Guard Pedersen informed members of the Security Council in closed consultations on developments in Syria and is ready to support efforts for a political transition without exclusion, according to the basic principles of the resolution 2254 (2015).
The Human Rights High Commissioner, Falker Turks, called for immediate, transparent and impartial investigation of all murders and other violations, while stressing that those responsible should be held accountable, in accordance with the rules and standards of international law.
The UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula called all parties “to protect people and infrastructure and allow safe and seamless humanitarian aid delivery“
“In contrast to reports circulating on social media and in some international media, the United Nations has not developed any mission or research mission in the Syrian coastal region. Such missions can only be entrusted by the UN Human Rights Council or the UN Security Council.
UN efforts on the spot are still focused on providing life -saving humanitarian aid to those in need, while ensuring the safety and protection of United Nations, Humanitarian Partners and their dependent members“, Mr Abdella said.
The United Nations operates with strict adherence to the humanitarian authorities, it said, maintaining neutrality, impartiality and independence in all their actions.
Mr Abdelmula stressed that the United Nations remains committed to addressing humanitarian needs with transparency and accuracy and urge all stakeholders to rely on verified information when reporting their activities.
“I strongly condemn the violence that has so far claimed life to many civilians and invite all parties to show restraint and abstain from targeting civilians and non -military infrastructure“, He noted.
