In his joint statements with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron sent a message to Donald Trump, noting that trade in international rules is a more effective tool for prosperity than duties.

“I think we both believe that fair trade that respects international rules is good for everyone’s well -being and is definitely more effective from duties’, Macron told reporters with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

He emphasized that Canada was steadily on the side of Ukraine and Europe since the beginning of the war.

Macron said the two nations will continue to support Ukraine and demand ‘Clear commitments’ from Russia.

Performing his first visit abroad, Carney said it is important for Canada in a crisis to reinforce his ties with “Reliable partners”.

“We are both in favor of sovereignty and security … something that is evidenced by our steadfast support in Ukraine,” he said.
