Moro tries to present himself in Europe as a counterpoint to Lula and Bolsonaro

by

Former minister Sergio Moro (Podemos) travels this week to Germany for a series of agendas with European businessmen and politicians. The ex-judge’s trip to Europe represents an attempt to demonstrate that he is known worldwide, like the recent international trips of his two main opponents, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). ).

Moro should present himself as an alternative for this year’s elections and explore issues in which the current Chief Executive is the target of criticism from foreign leaders, such as in the environmental area.

The former minister’s idea is to use the trip to position himself as the candidate capable of breaking the polarization in Brazil. He should talk about his background as a judge responsible for the Lava Jato operation and defend liberal policies for the economy. To do so, he would first need to break the 30% domestic rejection detected by Datafolha in December, the fourth largest, behind Bolsonaro, Lula and João Doria (PSDB).

The first agenda will be this Monday afternoon (21), on a visit to the Institute of Technology 4.0. In the evening, he participates in dinner with the German International Economic Council and the Business Club Hamburg BHC. On Tuesday (22), he will have a meeting with members of the association that represents small and medium-sized German companies and, afterwards, he will grant an interview to a group made up of more than 20 regional newspapers.

In the evening, Moro will give a lecture entitled “Strengthening institutions as an instrument to build a solid economy in Brazil and a developed democracy”, at the Latin American Association, which represents Latin American interests in Germany. Moro will only return to Brazil on Friday (25). The published agenda also includes a series of meetings with “presidents of parties and political leaders”.

The ex-judge also said that he will have meetings with former ministers of Angela Merkel, prime minister for 16 years and who left the government in December, and with ministers of the current government, headed by Olaf Scholz.

“Meeting with trade representatives from governments of Middle Eastern countries of the German-Arab Trade Association and parliamentarians from the Bundestag, some of whom were former ministers in the Merkel government”, says the statement released by Moro about the trip. Meetings with members of the National Confederation of Industry and a visit to a marine transport and logistics company are also planned.
