London: Thanasis Gavos
For the second time since the beginning of the invasion, the military ombudsman of the Russian embassy in London was summoned to the British Ministry of Defense to ask for an explanation for the atrocities taking place on the Ukrainian front.
Lawrence Lee, one of the permanent secretaries of the ministry, protested “on the strongest terms” about the “continuing and unjustified acts of violence committed against innocent civilians” by the Russian forces.
He also reminded the Russian diplomat of his country’s obligations under the Geneva Convention, which emphasizes that schools, theaters and hospitals “are not legitimate military targets”.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Defense, the British official warned the Russian following that London will gather evidence for the commission of war crimes and again demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Russian forces from Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov was also received by Foreign Minister Liz Tras and Defense Minister Ben Wallace.
Downing Street, meanwhile, has for the first time officially returned to Russia video calls made to British government ministers by people posing as Ukrainian officials.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace revealed last week that he had received a call from someone pretending to be Ukrainian Prime Minister Dennis Smihal. Home Secretary Pretty Patel said the same thing had happened to her, and a similar attempt was made to Culture Minister Nandin Doris.
