The case, which has caused public opinion outcry, is one of the most serious cases of animal abuse in recent years
A 60 -year -old from Hungary, holding more than 100 cats and a dog in miserable conditions and malnourished in her apartment, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for brutal animal treatment, a court said in Budapest today.
The case, which has caused public opinion outcry, is one of the most serious cases of animal abuse in recent years in Hungary, as local media reports.
This woman was found guilty of causing “prolonged pain in a large number of animals” by neglecting them, the court explained in a press release.
The defendant, who did not express any remorse, did not provide sufficient food and water to cats and dogs, holding them locked in her “apartment infected with animal feces”.
As a consequence “they suffered from external and internal parasitic diseases,” the court said.
The 60 -year -old, who resisted during her arrest in 2019 and then underwent psychiatric therapy, did not stop denied during her trial that she had abused these animals and claimed to have helped many more previously, according to the independent Telex website.
However, many cats died in the apartment and the others had to be euthanized after discovery due to various diseases, the site noted.
The case saw the light of publicity in Hungary after an animal protection organization, Helping Angels, posted on Facebook photos showing unhealthy conditions in the apartment.
Both the prosecution and the defense appealed to the decision.
