The leaders of the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France and Italy reaffirmed their commitment to continue to support Ukraine “militarily, diplomatically and financially”, equipping the democratically elected government with the tools to defend itself against the Russians.
This is stated in the overnight announcement of Downing Street for the talks of the five leaders earlier on Monday.
It is also noted that they expressed their determination to intensify pressure on Russia to stop the unprovoked invasion, including maintaining wide-ranging and coordinated sanctions.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed disgust at Putin’s increasingly barbaric tactics in Ukraine, such as sieges and targeting of civilians.
He praised the unity of the allies against Russia, noting that their collective action undermines Putin’s hostile machine.
He also said he was looking forward to further talks with NATO and the G7 this week, including on increasing military aid to Ukraine.
