Russian president met in Moscow with US President’s envoy Steve Witkov
A telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, after Putin’s meeting with special envoy Steve Whitkov on Friday, which lasted more than four hours, is “theoretically strong”, the news agency said.
Peskov did not give any appreciation for the time of the call.
Earlier, the Kremlin had made it known that the two men would discuss the “settlement” of the war in Ukraine, but noting that significant diplomatic developments were not expected.
“Putin will hear him. The debate will continue for various aspects of Ukrainian settlement, “Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Ria Novosti news agency.
Peskov also stressed that the two men may also discuss a future meeting of Putin and Trump.
Donald Trump has intensified the pressure to hold peace talks about Ukraine, which have been blocked in recent weeks, with special envoy Steve Witkov meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Witten, who has traveled twice to Russia this year for meetings with Putin, arrived in St. Petersburg on Friday. He met with the Russian negotiator, Mr. Dmitryv, before his meeting with the Kremlin leader.
President Trump has expressed his disappointment with Russia in recent weeks for the delay of peace talks. Ukraine has agreed on a 30 -day ceasefire, if Russia responds, as discussed in recent talks with US officials. However, Russia has rejected a ceasefire demand and is delaying talks, trying to save time to exploit its strategic progress and secure great concessions in the negotiations.
