US President Donald Trump has contacted Oman’s sultan today, with whom he discussed the next round of talks about the Iranian nuclear program, which will take place in Muskat on Saturday, the White House said.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt told reporters that the two leaders were also talking about the ongoing US military operations against Yemen’s Houthi rebels who are backed by Iran.

The “maximum pressure” strategy in Iran continues, Levit said. “The president has made it clear that he wants a dialogue with Iran,” while clarifying that Tehran will not have a nuclear weapon, he said. The White House spokesman said President Trump reiterated this post during his communication with Sultan Haitham bin Tarek al -Said.

Iran and the US, which have been interrupted by diplomatic relations since 1980, have held talks last Saturday, with the mediation of Oman’s Sultanate on the thorny issue of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. The aim is to speed up the start of negotiations on Tehran’s rapidly evolving nuclear program, with Trump threatening Iran with military action if no agreement is reached.

Western governments, with the first of the United States, have for decades that Iran is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. Tehran denies the accusation and defends the country’s sovereign right to have a nuclear program for non -military purposes, especially for energy production.

Americans and Iranian diplomats agreed to continue their talks next Saturday in the capital of Oman.
