Donald Trump yesterday signaling a possible end to successive announcements of duties between the US and China that brought huge upheaval to the markets. At the same time, he implied that an agreement on Tiktok’s fate can wait.

‘I don’t want to go taller [σ.σ. οι δασμοί] Because from one point onwards people do not buy, “Trump told reporters at the White House.

“Therefore, I may not want to go higher or I may not even want to go up so high. I may want to go a little lower because we want people to buy and, at a certain point, people are not going to buy, ”he said.

The Reuters notes that the Trump statement is a disposition for lower duties in general in dozens of countries after markets reacted violently in their announcement on April 2.

The Republican president imposed a 10% duty on most goods imported into the country, but delays the implementation of higher duties, pending negotiations.

However, it increased tariffs on Chinese products now reaching 145%, as Beijing responded with its own increases in US tariffs.

Last week, China signaled that it would not make further duties increases.

Trump said there was communication with China after the duties was imposed and expressed optimism that they could exist.

Speaking to reporters, Trump repeatedly refused to clarify the nature of talks between countries or if they were directly included in Chinese President Xi Jing.

“We have a deal on Tiktok, but it depends on China, so we will simply delay the deal until this thing works in one way or another,” Trump said.
